大唐風暴 Salt Lake

Three year old Stormy Ton made it three wins from as many starts when he trounced his rivals to win the first Division of the Class 3 over 1300 metres.

Ridden by Manoel Nunes Stormy Ton never looked in doubt, and quickened up stylishly at the 200 metres to run away from Caga Delight (Peter Ho), and Today’s Special (Fausto Durso) to win eased down.

The time said it all with the son of Salt Lake (USA), recording 1.18.9 for the 1300 metres in contrast to the second division won by Chinese Express at 1.20.4.

Craig Marshall has had tremendous success with his American imports, and Stormy Ton is another that is destined for the top shelf.

Marshall admits buying the colt purely on instinct, as the youngster reminded him of Hold The Salt, a Group winner by the same sire, that Marshall strapped in his time as an assistant to trainer Christopher Clemente, when he worked in the USA.

“His father Salt Lake was a real speed machine and when I first looked at this horse he reminded me of both his sire and Hold The Salt, a horse that I took care of in the States.” Marshall said.

“It was just a case of trusting your gut feeling.’

“He knew nothing when he first arrived but just keeps on improving.”

For Manoel Nunes the win was part of his winning treble on the night and the champion rider was full of praise for Stormy Ton.

“He is really something special.” Nunes said.

“He’s got a beautiful action, great temperament and just keeps on improving.”

“I missed his first two wins with suspensions, so it’s good to eventually ride him in a race.”

The win took Nunes to 82 winners for the season, 26 ahead of Fausto Durso, with Stanley Chin in third spot with 46.
